A few days ago, the ukrainian 🇺🇦 armed forces launched a small localized counter-attack south-west of Sudja in Kursk oblast 🇷🇺
This attack shows Ukraine is willing to take advantage of the situation, avoiding infantry infiltration in the small city.
The situation in Kursk remained dynamic for months and not really interesting.In fact, Ukraine still controls around 450-500 square kilometers, increasing since last month.
After the mass infantry assaults between november and january with mixed infantry groups of Russian and NK soldiers 🇷🇺/🇰🇵, Russia gained control of some forests near Malaya Loknya, but failed to enter the town.
Russian tactics evolved, with less armour assaults, mainly because the VDV regiment there, are lacking BMP, BTR and BMD due to the high losses during the previous months.Tanks are still used, but often with civilian cars full of soldiers.
The last innovation in the war, Fiber optic drones (more difficult to down) are highly used by russian forces in Kursk.Now, ukrainian forces managed to acquire the technology and is using them too.
With these drones, Russia is hammering ukrainian logistics back in Sumy oblast. You can only imagine how big the casualities can be just based on the number of that kind of videos for both sides.
So the situation is not particularly interesting, Russia failed to take back Sudja despite numerous assaults, both armies are conducting localized attacks and the dynamics in the losses remains the same.I don’t know how those losses can be sustainable in the future…
4 days ago, Ukraine renewed offensive operation in Kursk, for the second time in 2025. This time was way more successful, despite, as always, many losses.They took back Cherkasskaya Konopel’ka and advanced to Ulanok, same place as 4 months ago.
As always when Ukraine is attacking somewhere, I saw people making those kind of « maps ». It is ridiculous because it is misunderstanding the reason why Ukraine is attacking there and the reasons why they are staying.
In fact, it seems they still feel like keeping some russian territory will help in the case of future negociations.And they are taking advantage of russian errors to take back territory for which hundreds of russian died.
Today Sentinel-2 overpass is quite interesting because we can see a lot of bombing and paths in the snow.
We will see later on the situation in other part of Ukraine, including the russian Dvorichna-Oskil offensive, the difficulties to advance around Pokrovsk and ukrainian counter-attacks developping elsewhere.
